3. TEXTBOOK AND ONLINE HOMEWORK
(A) TEXTBOOK
The textbook is:
Thomas'
Calculus (Early Transcendentals), Fourteenth Edition, Pearson. You will be using an online version of Thomas,
together with MyLab and Mastering.
(B1) CANVAS
For those students who are having trouble registering for their course in Canvas, please contact canvas.gatech.edu
(B2) ONLINE HOMEWORK WITH MY MATHLAB THROUGH CANVAS:
Please go to Canvas and NOTMyMathLab to register for your MyMathLab course. You do not need to
know the number of the course, it should be there as part of your
Canvas course. Here is the info sheet on how to do this.
The
rough lecture schedule is available inside the full SYLLABUS. The
typed notes from which I
prepare lectures will be inserted below, chapter by chapter, in the
order that they will
be covered. They are NOT a replacement for the textbook. The
handwritten lectures will be uploaded in the folder "Handwritten lectures" in "Files" in Canvas.
Tentative dates of tests:
Test 1: Wednesday 14 September
Test 2: Monday 24 October
Test 3: Monday 14 November
Makeup tests will only be given when students have valid medical
certificates or letters of attendance for approved student events.
The final exam is on Thursday December 15, from 8:00m - 10:50am.
Full
information on how the tests and final exam will be conducted will be
provided in the information sheets in the folder "Tests" in "Files" in
Canvas.
The items are weighted as
follows:
MyLab Homework: 15%
Quizzes: 10%
Midterm tests: 50% (two best tests count 20% each and the lowest tests counts 10%)
Final exam: 25%
No extra credit.
A final percent of 90+, 80+, 70+, 60+ guarantees a grade of
respectively A, B, C, D respectively, though there will be a curve on
the final percentage that could yield e.g. an A for a lower grade.
All grades will be posted on Canvas.
