3. TEXTBOOK AND HOMEWORK
(A) RECOMMENDED BOOK
The recommended book is:
R.G. Bartle, The Elements of Real Analysis, 2nd edition
This book is the basis for the course and the typed lecture
notes are based on it, as are many homework exercises. It will be
helfpul to have. However, you are not required to buy it.
(B) HOMEWORKS
There will be 5 homeworks to hand in through the summer. Selected exercises from these will be graded.
Tentative dates of tests:
Test 1: Thursday June 1
Test 2: Thursday June 29
The final exam is on Monday 31 July. It will be a take home final, with a 14 hour window. Full information on how the tests will be conducted will be will be provided in the information sheet in Canvas.
The items are weighted as
follows:
Homework: 35%
Midterm tests: 40% (20% each)
Final exam: 25%
No extra credit.
A final percent of 90+, 80+, 70+, 60+ guarantees a grade of
respectively A, B, C, D respectively, though there will be a curve on
the final percentage that could yield e.g. an A for a lower grade.
All grades will be posted on Canvas.
